Today, the Chicago Park District announced it will resume in-person programming Monday, January 25th at parks across the city after the State adjusted metrics that determine Covid-19 restrictions for Illinois regions. Winter programs previously scheduled to begin January 4th were suspended in accordance with the State’s Tier 3 Resurgence Mitigation plan to suppress the spread of COVID-19.

Under the current guidelines, the District can offer limited, socially distanced programming at parks across the city. In-person Winter offerings include sports, cultural and nature opportunities. Programs will run January 25th through March 28th.  In order to adhere to strict capacity limits, all in-person participants must  register. Masks must be worn at all times.

Chicago Park District fieldhouses will remain open to the public for washrooms and shelter during the regular hours of operation.

“The Chicago Park District is committed to protecting our patrons and workforce by following the guidelines put in place by the State’s public health officials,” said General Superintendent and CEO Michael Kelly. “While limited, Winter programs will allow residents to enjoy in-person opportunities in a safe, socially distanced setting”

The Chicago Park District will continue to offer a vast selection of virtual programs and experiences to keep families active and engaged. Virtual opportunities include live and pre-recorded classes and other unique park experiences, including virtual arts and crafts, story time and fitness workouts.

With the exception of parkland east of Lake Shore Drive, the lakefront trail and outdoor park spaces remain open to provide brief respite. Large gatherings and close contact activities are strictly prohibited and social distancing must be observed at all times. Trail users are required to keep it moving. Masks are mandatory.

Acceptable activities include walking, running and hiking in our outdoor spaces alone or with members of the same household.

The District encourages residents to check the Chicago Park District and City of Chicago websites regularly for the most up-to-date Covid-19 information and guidance.
