The Chicago Park District will offer free access to 71 fitness centers citywide. Free Fitness Centers Week aligns with the Park District’s mission to provide and promote access to health and wellness opportunities.  Our goal is to motivate our residents to increase physical activity minutes by walking, swimming, weightlifting, running, yoga and much more, not only to improve physical health, but to elevate their moods, and boost their overall mental health. Pre-registration is highly recommended. No memberships needed.
                                
If residents are looking to start their wellness journey in 2024, we invite them to start at their local Chicago Park District fitness center. Parks are health hubs that offer opportunities for all ages and abilities to adopt healthy habits through programs, facilities and amenities.
                                
This year, the Wellness Department is providing additional resources to empower Chicagoans to stay active in the parks. Free Fitness Week participants will have access to workout routine examples that can be completed in our fitness centers, as well as nutritional tips to promote overall health and wellness through physical activity, nutrition education and mindfulness activities. When at home, Chicagoans can stay motivated with on-demand exercise routines that are available at no cost on the Chicago Park District’s YouTube page www.youtube.com/chicagoparkdistrict
 
 Residents searching for a weight loss goal in 2024, may access the Park District on-demand physical exercise routines and connect with our wellness team about establishing healthy routines, habits and health goals to significantly decrease the risk of developing a deadly illness.

The Chicago Park District’s 71 fitness centers will open their doors to the public for free. Our fitness centers have a variety of equipment to help maintain and/or improve one’s cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.  Everyone is invited to their local park, whether it is close to home or work to try-out our state-of-the-art equipment that features treadmills, cross trainers, upright and recumbent bicycles, free weights and benches, cable cross-overs, multi-station weight machines and core-focused weight equipment. 

One-month, 3-month and year-long fitness center memberships are available to purchase here.  Membership rates are affordable, and range from $30-$60 for three months, a fraction of the cost of commercial gyms.  Accessible equipment for people with disabilities is available at 40 fitness centers.  Hours of operation vary per location. 
 
In addition, park-goers may register for winter fitness classes. Fitness and wellness options are available for a range of ages and abilities, including aquatic aerobics, cycling, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and strength training, to name a few. Find a class here. Lap swim memberships are also available for purchase here. Lap swim kicks off at citywide pools starting the week of January 8.  Most winter session classes run the week of January 8, 2024 to March 21, 2024.
