Chicago Park District will offer free access to 69 fitness centers

The Chicago Park District’s 69 fitness centers will open their doors to the public for free from Friday, December 30, 2022 to Sunday, January 8, 2023. Our fitness centers have a variety of equipment to help maintain and/or improve one’s cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.  Everyone is invited to try-out our state-of-the-art equipment that features computerized treadmills, cross trainers, upright and recumbent bicycles, free weights and benches, cable cross-overs, multi-station weight machines and core-focused weight equipment. One-month, 3-month and year-long fitness center memberships are available to purchase here.  Membership rates are affordable, and range from $30-$60 for three months, a fraction of the cost of commercial gyms.  Accessible equipment for people with disabilities is available at 40 fitness centers.  Hours of operation vary per location, and visitors must be at least 18 years old. Masks are recommended,  but not required.

In addition, park-goers may register for winter fitness classes. Fitness and wellness options are available for a range of ages and abilities, including aquatic aerobics, cycling, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and strength training, to name a few. Find a class here. Lap swim memberships are also available for purchase here. Lap swim kicks off at citywide pools starting the week of January 2.  Check hours and times here. Most winter session classes run the week of January 9, 2023 to March 26, 2023.

Free Fitness Centers Week aligns with the Park District’s mission to motivate our residents to exercise more by walking, swimming, dancing, running and moving, not only to lose weight, but to elevate their moods, and boost their overall mental health. Pre-registration is highly recommended. No memberships needed.

If residents are searching for a weight loss goal in 2023, our wellness team recommends dropping 10% of body weight to gain health benefits and significantly decrease the risk of developing deadly diseases. Please discuss all health goals, plans with medical professionals before starting any physical exercise routine to ensure your personal health and safety.
