Description

Beginning Storytelling 101

Storytelling is one of the hottest performance arts today. If you want to learn how to tell stories – whether on stages or just in living rooms or at dinner tables – come learn how to craft entertaining narratives through games, activities and exercises.

No experience is necessary. Please bring a snack, writing materials or computer. We will do writing exercises in class.

This workshop is provided by Visiting Artist Willa J.Taylor.
Ms. Taylor is adjunct professor at DePaul and serves on advisory boards for the theater schools at University of Illinois at Chicago and Northern Illinois University. Taylor is a writer and storyteller who performs nationally. She is a contributor to Arts Integration in Education: Teachers and Teaching Artists as Agents of Change, published by Intellect LTD; and to Applied Theatre with Youth: Education, Engagement, Activism, published by Routledge.

Ms. Taylor is the former Walter Director at Goodman Theatre, and the creator of GeNarrations– a personal narrative storytelling program for people 55+. In her 16 seasons at Goodman, she created 14 new education and engagement programs, including InterGENS, which partners seniors and teens to create original narrative performances that address community concerns; and Divergent Discourse, an initiative that uses storytelling and theatrical practices to build capacity for social service organizations like Chicago Legal Advocacy for Incarcerated Mothers.

Instructor Permission is required to register for this workshop. Contact the park for more information.
